WELCOME to this month's edition of M45 Momentum, a monthly e-newsletter for the business community featuring tips, trends and trivia from the experts at M45 Marketing Services.

Nowadays you can't afford to "rest on your laurels." In many cases, the skills you learned in school are too quickly forgotten or outdated. At M45, we're here not just to be your communications team, but to help your team learn to communicate better.

We encourage your feedback! Send comments and story suggestions to info@m45.biz. Having trouble with the formatting? An HTML version of this newsletter is always available at www.m45.biz/resources/momentum/5_2004.asp.

PREPARE TO LAUNCH

Informal training is most often expected when you change careers or positions within a company.

Here are some helpful self-study sites that provide information and aid for job-seekers, employees and employers:

THE SPOTLIGHT

PROFESSIONAL TRAINING

That train has left the station...and the passengers were well-prepared!

How many times have you been in a meeting where the whole “problem situation” was being narrowed down to “poor communications?” Ah yes—“poor communications” seems to lie at the root of all kinds of ills. And we’re not just talking about the employee newsletter!

Because communications is so critical to success in today's business environment, M45 offers several types of training to improve communication skills. "Good communications" in any organization is only as good as the people who communicate. When personal communications training is combined with a fully integrated communications program, the results can be powerful and long-lasting. In any of our training scenarios, we'll work with you to define your training needs and specific requirements, and then outline training solutions tailored for your particular situation.

M45 has several professional trainers on staff—our folks are multi-talented! Our Website describes a few examples of recent training we have developed for clients as diverse as a Fortune 50 manufacturing company, an agricultural business and a healthcare facility. So give us a call if your communications skills could use a little polish—get on board!

STELLAR STATS

Companies that spend more on employee training have found direct correlations to increased company revenues and overall profitability.

The average number of training hours that companies allow for employees is 28 per year.

DESTINATION: M45
Stephenson County Self-Serve
On May 12, a new Stephenson County, IL, Website was launched which will make it easier for area residents to access information from their local county government. M45 Marketing Services was selected to design and create the comprehensive site which contains over 100 pages of information with key sections on departmental overviews, printable forms, contact information, FAQs, and helpful links to other government-related sites.

County Board member Tim Whalen praised M45 for its work on the site: "We definitely got our money's worth. I think these guys at M45 did a bang-up job. It looks fantastic."

Marilyn Smit, co-founder of M45, commented: "Government is a complicated thing. They didn't want a lot of expensive bells and whistles, and we focused on meeting both their budget and functional needs. The goal was to make the site as uncomplicated as possible. It's very nice and clean. It's easy to use. It's focused on information."

WELCOME, MELISSA!
Melissa Namio recently joined M45 as a community relations specialist. Well, we'll let her do the introduction:

I am a native of Freeport and proud to say I am a Pretzel (which, for those of you not in the know, is the mascot of my alma mater, Freeport High School). After attending the University of Northern Iowa, where I received my BA in psychology and health and my MA in health education, I was fortunate enough to come back to Freeport and join FHN Healthcare Centers serving northwest Illinois. Throughout my five years with FHN, I was actively involved in community health education. I am very excited to join the M45 family!

On a personal note, my husband Nick is a special education teacher at Freeport High School. We are proud parents of a 10-month old little boy, Joseph, who is very active! In addition to spending time with family a few other interests of mine include getting together with friends, reading and anything that gets me outside and moving.

STAR LITE -- Twice as creative and at least a third less serious than your average newsletter copy

We think training is important—and wanted to see what others may have said on the topic:

Perhaps the most valuable result of all education is the ability to make yourself do the thing you have to do, when it ought to be done, whether you like it or not; it is the first lesson that ought to be learned; and however early training begins, it is probably the last lesson learned thoroughly. — Thomas H. Huxley

Training is everything. The peach was once a bitter almond; cauliflower is nothing but cabbage with a college education. — Mark Twain (1835 - 1910)

It’s all to do with the training; you can do a lot if you’re properly trained. — Elizabeth II
